| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Chapter 122, Health and Safety Code, is amended | ||
| by adding Section 122.0075 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 122.0075. PROVISION OF HEALTH CARE SERVICES BY CERTAIN | ||
| COUNTIES. (a) As the county determines necessary to protect the | ||
| public health, safety, and welfare, a county located on the | ||
| Texas-Mexico border may provide health care services to a person in | ||
| the county regardless of the person's income. The county may | ||
| provide funding for the health care services from the county | ||
| treasury. | ||
| (b) A county may establish the standards and the | ||
| application, documentation, and verification procedures for | ||
| determining a person's eligibility to receive health care services | ||
| under this section. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2011. | ||
