| Representatives and Texas Senate district. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Chapter 468, Government Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Section 468.006 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 468.006. ANNUAL DEMOGRAPHIC STUDY OF STATE HOUSE OF | ||
| REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATE DISTRICTS. (a) The state demographer | ||
| shall conduct an annual demographic study to determine the | ||
| following information for each state house of representatives and | ||
| state senate district for the current state fiscal year: | ||
| (1) the average household income in the district; | ||
| (2) the average education attainment level of | ||
| individuals in the district; | ||
| (3) the percentage of the population in the district | ||
| by ethnicity; | ||
| (4) the annual amount of lottery sales in the | ||
| district; | ||
| (5) the rate of homeownership in the district; and | ||
| (6) the average age of individuals in the district. | ||
| (b) Not later than September 1, the state demographer shall | ||
| submit to each member of the house of representatives, each member | ||
| of the senate, the speaker of the house of representatives, and the | ||
| lieutenant governor a report that includes the results of the | ||
| demographic study. The report must be made in writing and in a | ||
| searchable electronic format that enables a user to sort the | ||
| information described in Subsection (a) by category. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect January 1, 2016. | ||
