A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to an annual demographic study of each Texas House of
  Representatives and Texas Senate district.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Chapter 468, Government Code, is amended by
  adding Section 468.006 to read as follows:
         Sec. 468.006.  ANNUAL DEMOGRAPHIC STUDY OF STATE HOUSE OF
  REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATE DISTRICTS. (a) The state demographer
  shall conduct an annual demographic study to determine the
  following information for each state house of representatives and
  state senate district for the current state fiscal year:
               (1)  the average household income in the district;
               (2)  the average education attainment level of
  individuals in the district;
               (3)  the percentage of the population in the district
  by ethnicity;
               (4)  the annual amount of lottery sales in the
  district;
               (5)  the rate of homeownership in the district; and
               (6)  the average age of individuals in the district.
         (b)  Not later than September 1, the state demographer shall
  submit to each member of the house of representatives, each member
  of the senate, the speaker of the house of representatives, and the
  lieutenant governor a report that includes the results of the
  demographic study. The report must be made in writing and in a
  searchable electronic format that enables a user to sort the
  information described in Subsection (a) by category.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect January 1, 2016.
