relating to an annual demographic study of each Texas House of | ||
Representatives and Texas Senate district. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Chapter 468, Government Code, is amended by | ||
adding Section 468.006 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 468.006. ANNUAL DEMOGRAPHIC STUDY OF STATE HOUSE OF | ||
REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATE DISTRICTS. (a) The state demographer | ||
shall conduct an annual demographic study to determine the | ||
following information for each state house of representatives and | ||
state senate district for the current state fiscal year: | ||
(1) the average household income in the district; | ||
(2) the average education attainment level of | ||
individuals in the district; | ||
(3) the percentage of the population in the district | ||
by ethnicity; | ||
(4) the annual amount of lottery sales in the | ||
district; | ||
(5) the rate of homeownership in the district; and | ||
(6) the average age of individuals in the district. | ||
(b) Not later than September 1, the state demographer shall | ||
submit to each member of the house of representatives, each member | ||
of the senate, the speaker of the house of representatives, and the | ||
lieutenant governor a report that includes the results of the | ||
demographic study. The report must be made in writing and in a | ||
searchable electronic format that enables a user to sort the | ||
information described in Subsection (a) by category. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect January 1, 2016. |
