| certain school districts. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 1579.152, Insurance Code, is amended to | ||
| read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 1579.152. PARTICIPATION OF OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS. | ||
| (a) Effective September 1, 2005, a school district with more than | ||
| 500 employees may elect to participate in the program. | ||
| (b) Except as provided by Subsection (c), a school district | ||
| may elect to withdraw from the program on or after the fifth | ||
| anniversary of the date the district elected to participate under | ||
| Subsection (a). | ||
| (c) A school district that elected to participate under | ||
| Subsection (a) before September 1, 2013, may elect to withdraw from | ||
| the program on or after September 1, 2018. | ||
| (d) A school district that elects to participate or withdraw | ||
| under this section shall apply for participation or give notice of | ||
| withdrawal in the manner prescribed by the trustee by rule. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. | ||
