| relating to the certification of certain chief appraisers as | ||
| registered Texas assessors; imposing a fee. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 1151.160, Occupations Code, is amended | ||
| by adding Subsection (j) to read as follows: | ||
| (j) The commission shall adopt rules to allow a person to | ||
| obtain certification as a registered Texas assessor without passing | ||
| a required certification examination if the person: | ||
| (1) is registered with the department; | ||
| (2) has worked as a chief appraiser for the 12 years | ||
| preceding the date the person applies to the department to obtain | ||
| certification as a registered Texas assessor; and | ||
| (3) pays a fee in an amount equal to three times the | ||
| annual registration fee paid by an assessor-collector. | ||
| SECTION 2. Section 1151.161(a), Occupations Code, is | ||
| amended to read as follows: | ||
| (a) Except as provided by Section 1151.160(j), the [ |

| commission by rule shall require a registrant to pass one or more | ||
| examinations to be certified. The commission by rule shall ensure | ||
| that any examination required for certification is administered in | ||
| compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (42 | ||
| U.S.C. Section 12101 et seq.). | ||
| SECTION 3. The Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation | ||
| shall adopt rules under Section 1151.160, Occupations Code, as | ||
| amended by this Act, not later than November 1, 2013. | ||
| SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. | ||
