BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Sections 2.025(c) and (d), Election Code, are | ||
amended to read as follows: | ||
(c) This section supersedes a law outside this code | ||

Section 2.022. | ||
(d) Except as otherwise provided by this code, a [ |
||
election for a special election to fill a vacancy in Congress or a | ||
special election to fill a vacancy in the legislature [ |
||

||
or later than the 84th [ |
||
of the main election is completed. | ||
SECTION 2. Section 203.004(b), Election Code, is amended to | ||
read as follows: | ||
(b) If the election is to be held as an emergency election, | ||
it shall be held on a Tuesday or Saturday occurring on or after the | ||
36th day and before the 50th day after the date the election is | ||
ordered. Any necessary runoff election must be held on a Tuesday or | ||
Saturday occurring not earlier than the 20th day or later than the | ||
45th day after the date the final canvass of the main election is | ||
completed. | ||
SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies only | ||
to an election ordered on or after the effective date of this Act. | ||
An election ordered before the effective date of this Act is | ||
governed by the law in effect when the election was ordered, and the | ||
former law is continued in effect for that purpose. | ||
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
