| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 29, Education Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 29.9175 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 29.9175. POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION PATHS PILOT PROGRAM. | ||
| (a) Using funds appropriated for that purpose, the commissioner | ||
| shall establish a pilot program under which a school district | ||
| participating in the program shall provide information on | ||
| considering, selecting, and navigating available postsecondary | ||
| education paths to interested students. | ||
| (b) The information required under Subsection (a) must | ||
| include video tutorials, online resources, and a hard copy workbook | ||
| to assist students in considering, selecting, and navigating the | ||
| paths available after secondary education in: | ||
| (1) the skilled labor workforce, including | ||
| certification programs; | ||
| (2) a public junior college, including the | ||
| opportunities available after completion of a junior college | ||
| program; | ||
| (3) a senior college or university; and | ||
| (4) any other available programs. | ||
| (c) A school district participating in the program may | ||
| provide information to students in grades 8 through 12. | ||
| (d) A school district may not require a student to | ||
| participate in the program. | ||
| (e) The commissioner shall adopt rules necessary to | ||
| implement this section. | ||
| (f) This section expires September 1, 2015. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2013. | ||
