| relating to a study by the Department of Agriculture of the transfer | ||
| of water from the Mississippi River. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. (a) In this section, "department" means the | ||
| Department of Agriculture. | ||
| (b) The department shall conduct a study of the feasibility | ||
| of and the costs and benefits associated with the transfer of water | ||
| from the Mississippi River to this state by an underground aqueduct | ||
| or covered canal. | ||
| (c) In conducting the study, the department shall consult | ||
| with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the Texas Water | ||
| Development Board, the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and | ||
| the appropriate governmental agencies of any state that would be | ||
| affected by the transfer. | ||
| (d) The department may accept grants or private donations | ||
| for the purposes of conducting the study under this section. | ||
| (e) Not later than January 1, 2019, the department shall | ||
| submit to the legislature a report containing the findings of the | ||
| study conducted under this section. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act expires January 2, 2019. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. | ||
