relating to a study by the Department of Agriculture of the transfer | ||
of water from the Mississippi River. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. (a) In this section, "department" means the | ||
Department of Agriculture. | ||
(b) The department shall conduct a study of the feasibility | ||
of and the costs and benefits associated with the transfer of water | ||
from the Mississippi River to this state by an underground aqueduct | ||
or covered canal. | ||
(c) In conducting the study, the department shall consult | ||
with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the Texas Water | ||
Development Board, the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and | ||
the appropriate governmental agencies of any state that would be | ||
affected by the transfer. | ||
(d) The department may accept grants or private donations | ||
for the purposes of conducting the study under this section. | ||
(e) Not later than January 1, 2019, the department shall | ||
submit to the legislature a report containing the findings of the | ||
study conducted under this section. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act expires January 2, 2019. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
