| relating to an electronic means for voters to determine the status | ||
| of ballots submitted by mail. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 86.011, Election Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: | ||
| (e) This subsection applies only to an election held in a | ||
| county with a population of 20,000 or more in which a federal office | ||
| appears on the ballot. The early voting clerk shall make the unique | ||
| identification number described by Section 86.013(h) available on | ||
| the county's website and indicate whether the return of the | ||
| official carrier envelope associated with the number is timely. | ||
| SECTION 2. Section 86.013, Election Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Subsection (h) to read as follows: | ||
| (h) This subsection applies only to an election held in a | ||
| county with a population of 20,000 or more in which a federal office | ||
| appears on the ballot. The secretary of state by rule shall require | ||
| that a detachable receipt be attached to the official carrier | ||
| envelope and a unique identification number be printed on the | ||
| receipt and the reverse side of the envelope. | ||
| SECTION 3. Sections 86.011(e) and 86.013(h), Election Code, | ||
| as added by this Act, apply only to an election ordered on or after | ||
| September 1, 2013. | ||
| SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. | ||
