A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to optional holidays for state employees.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 662.003(c), Government Code, is amended
  to read as follows:
         (c)  An "optional holiday" includes any religious holiday
  [only the days on which Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, or Good Friday
  falls].
         SECTION 2.  Section 662.006, Government Code, is amended by
  adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
         (d)  A state employee must give the employing state agency
  reasonable notice of the employee's intent to take a paid day off on
  an optional holiday.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
