| relating to providing proof of identity to obtain a one-trip or | ||
| 30-day trip permit for the transit of certain unregistered | ||
| vehicles. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 502.354, Transportation Code, is amended | ||
| by amending Subsection (e) and adding Subsection (j) to read as | ||
| follows: | ||
| (e) A person may obtain a permit under this section by: | ||
| (1) applying on a form provided by the department to: | ||
| (A) the county assessor-collector of the county | ||
| in which the vehicle will first be operated on a public highway; or | ||
| (B) the department in Austin or at one of the | ||
| department's vehicle title and registration regional offices; | ||
| (2) paying a fee, in cash or by postal money order or | ||
| certified check, of: | ||
| (A) $5 for a one-trip permit; or | ||
| (B) $25 for each 30-day period; [ |
||
| (3) furnishing evidence of financial responsibility | ||
| for the vehicle in a form listed under Section 502.153(c); and | ||
| (4) providing proof of the person's identity using a | ||
| state-issued driver's license or personal identification | ||
| certificate. | ||
| (j) The department or a county assessor-collector, as | ||
| appropriate, shall keep a record of an applicant's proof of | ||
| identity provided under Subsection (e)(4) in the database the | ||
| department or county assessor-collector uses to record information | ||
| about permits issued under this section. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. | ||
