relating to the lunch period for classroom teachers at the middle | ||
school, junior high school, or high school grade level. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 21.405(a), Education Code, is amended to | ||
read as follows: | ||
(a) Except as provided by Subsection (c), each classroom | ||
teacher or full-time librarian at the elementary school level is | ||
entitled to at least a 30-minute lunch period free from all duties | ||
and responsibilities connected with the instruction and | ||
supervision of students. Except as provided by Subsection (c), | ||
each classroom teacher or full-time librarian at the middle school, | ||
junior high school, or high school grade level is entitled to at | ||
least a 45-minute lunch period free from all duties and | ||
responsibilities connected with the instruction and supervision of | ||
students. Each school district may set flexible or rotating | ||
schedules for each classroom teacher or full-time librarian in the | ||
district for the implementation of the duty-free lunch period. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016 | ||
school year. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
