A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to policies and procedures for the issuance of personal
  bonds in certain counties.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Chapter 17, Code of Criminal Procedure, is
  amended by adding Article 17.034 to read as follows:
         Art. 17.034.  RELEASE ON PERSONAL BOND IN CERTAIN COUNTIES.
  Notwithstanding any other law, the sheriff of a county with a
  population of 700,000 or more but less than 780,000 may, with the
  consent of the attorney representing the state in that county,
  develop policies and procedures for the release of defendants on
  personal bond if necessary to alleviate overcrowding in the county
  jail.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
