A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to a grant program for law enforcement agencies that
  comply with certain reporting requirements.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter B, Chapter 402, Government Code, is
  amended by adding Section 402.0391 to read as follows:
         Sec. 402.0391.  GRANT PROGRAM FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES
  THAT COMPLY WITH CERTAIN REPORTING REQUIREMENTS. (a)  Using money
  appropriated for the purpose, the attorney general shall award
  grants to law enforcement agencies if the head of the agency
  certifies under oath that the agency complies with the reporting
  requirements under Article 2.139, Code of Criminal Procedure, as
  added by Chapter 516 (H.B. 1036), Acts of the 84th Legislature,
  Regular Session, 2015.
         (b)  The attorney general annually shall request proposals
  for the award of grants under this section.
         (c)  Grant money received under this section may only be used
  for police training and equipment that are not military or
  paramilitary in nature.
         (d)  The attorney general shall establish procedures to
  administer the grant program, including a procedure for the
  submission of a proposal.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
