| relating to a grant program for law enforcement agencies that | ||
| comply with certain reporting requirements. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 402, Government Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 402.0391 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 402.0391. GRANT PROGRAM FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES | ||
| THAT COMPLY WITH CERTAIN REPORTING REQUIREMENTS. (a) Using money | ||
| appropriated for the purpose, the attorney general shall award | ||
| grants to law enforcement agencies if the head of the agency | ||
| certifies under oath that the agency complies with the reporting | ||
| requirements under Article 2.139, Code of Criminal Procedure, as | ||
| added by Chapter 516 (H.B. 1036), Acts of the 84th Legislature, | ||
| Regular Session, 2015. | ||
| (b) The attorney general annually shall request proposals | ||
| for the award of grants under this section. | ||
| (c) Grant money received under this section may only be used | ||
| for police training and equipment that are not military or | ||
| paramilitary in nature. | ||
| (d) The attorney general shall establish procedures to | ||
| administer the grant program, including a procedure for the | ||
| submission of a proposal. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. | ||
