| military dependents. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 25.0811, Education Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: | ||
| (c) Notwithstanding Subsection (a), a school district in | ||
| which, in the preceding school year, at least 33 percent of students | ||
| in enrollment had a parent or guardian who is a member of the armed | ||
| forces of the United States may begin instruction for students for a | ||
| school year on or after the third Monday in August. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2011-2012 | ||
| school year. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2011. | ||
