| relating to the establishment of a college of veterinary medicine | ||
| at Texas A&M University--Kingsville. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 87, Education Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 87.303 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 87.303. TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY--KINGSVILLE COLLEGE OF | ||
| VETERINARY MEDICINE. (a) The board may establish and operate a | ||
| college of veterinary medicine as a professional school of Texas | ||
| A&M University--Kingsville. | ||
| (b) The college of veterinary medicine shall specialize in | ||
| training veterinarians in operating a large animal practice. | ||
| (c) In administering the college of veterinary medicine, | ||
| the board may prescribe courses leading to customary degrees | ||
| offered at other leading American colleges of veterinary medicine | ||
| and may award those degrees. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2017. | ||
