| relating to the term of probationary contracts for certain public | ||
| school teachers. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 21.102(b), Education Code, is amended to | ||
| read as follows: | ||
| (b) A probationary contract may not be for a term exceeding | ||
| one school year. The probationary contract may be renewed for two | ||
| additional one-year periods, for a maximum permissible | ||
| probationary contract period of three school years, except that the | ||
| probationary period may not exceed two years [ |

| who has been employed as a teacher in public education for at least | ||
| five of the eight years preceding employment by the district. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2011. | ||
