| relating to the appeal of an order authorizing the administration | ||
| of medication to a patient receiving court-ordered inpatient mental | ||
| health services. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 574.108(b), Health and Safety Code, is | ||
| amended to read as follows: | ||
| (b) An order authorizing the administration of medication | ||
| regardless of the refusal of the patient is stayed [ |
||
| pending an appeal of the order. | ||
| SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only | ||
| to an appeal of an order authorizing the administration of | ||
| medication to a patient receiving court-ordered inpatient mental | ||
| health services that is filed on or after the effective date of this | ||
| Act. An appeal filed before the effective date of this Act is | ||
| governed by the law in effect when the appeal was filed, and the | ||
| former law is continued in effect for that purpose. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. | ||
