A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the time for qualification for elected office.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 601.003(b), Government Code, is amended
to read as follows:
(b) A person elected to a regular term of office may qualify
for office following the canvass of the vote for that office and the
declaration of the result of the election and shall [qualify and]
assume the duties of the office on, or as soon as possible after,
January 1 of the year following the person's election.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
