| relating to the electronic filing with the Texas Ethics Commission | ||
| of certain reports of political contributions and expenditures. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 254, Election Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 254.0365 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 254.0365. ELECTRONIC FILING OF CERTAIN REPORTS | ||
| REQUIRED. (a) This section does not apply to a candidate or | ||
| officeholder for a judicial office subject to Subchapter F, Chapter | ||
| 253. | ||
| (b) Notwithstanding any other law, a candidate or | ||
| officeholder who is required to file reports with the commission | ||
| shall file the reports electronically if in a calendar year the | ||
| candidate or officeholder: | ||
| (1) accepts political contributions that in the | ||
| aggregate exceed $25,000; or | ||
| (2) makes political expenditures that in the aggregate | ||
| exceed $25,000. | ||
| (c) The commission shall make each report filed in | ||
| accordance with this section available to the public on the | ||
| commission's Internet website not later than the seventh business | ||
| day after the date the report is filed. | ||
| SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to | ||
| a report of political contributions and expenditures under Chapter | ||
| 254, Election Code, that is required to be filed on or after January | ||
| 1, 2026. A report under that chapter that is required to be filed | ||
| before the effective date of this Act is governed by the law in | ||
| effect on the date the report is required to be filed, and the | ||
| former law is continued in effect for that purpose. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. | ||
