| relating to the display of the national motto in public school and | ||
| institution of higher education classrooms. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 1.004, Education Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: | ||
| (d) A classroom teacher at a public elementary or secondary | ||
| school or a teacher or professor at an institution of higher | ||
| education as defined by Section 61.003 may not be prohibited from | ||
| displaying in a classroom a poster or framed copy of the national | ||
| motto that meets the requirements of this section. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024 | ||
| school year. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2023. | ||
