| relating to a limitation on the salary paid to officers and | ||
| employees of this state and political subdivisions of this state. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 659, Government Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 659.0111 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 659.0111. LIMITATION ON SALARY. Notwithstanding any | ||
| other law, the salary of a state officer or employee may not exceed | ||
| 150 percent of the amount of the salary set by the biennial | ||
| appropriations act for the governor. | ||
| SECTION 2. Chapter 180, Local Government Code, is amended | ||
| by adding Section 180.011 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 180.011. LIMITATION ON SALARY FOR OFFICER OR EMPLOYEE | ||
| OF POLITICAL SUBDIVISION. (a) In this section, "political | ||
| subdivision" means a county, municipality, special district, | ||
| school district, junior college district, or other political | ||
| subdivision of this state. | ||
| (b) Notwithstanding any other law, the salary of an officer | ||
| or employee of a political subdivision may not exceed 150 percent of | ||
| the amount of the salary set by the General Appropriations Act for | ||
| the governor. | ||
| SECTION 3. Section 659.0111, Government Code, and Section | ||
| 180.011, Local Government Code, as added by this Act, apply only to | ||
| a salary agreement or employment contract entered into on or after | ||
| the effective date of this Act. A salary agreement or employment | ||
| contract entered into before the effective date of this Act is | ||
| governed by the law in effect at the time the agreement or contract | ||
| was entered into, and the former law is continued in effect for that | ||
| purpose. | ||
| SECTION 4. This Act applies beginning with the state fiscal | ||
| biennium that begins September 1, 2025. | ||
| SECTION 5. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. | ||
