relating to a veteran's employment preference for employment with a | ||
public entity or public work of this state. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Chapter 657, Government Code, is amended by | ||
adding Section 657.0051 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 657.0051. INTERVIEW REQUIRED. The individual whose | ||
duty is to appoint or employ an applicant for an announced open | ||
position with a public entity or public work of this state shall | ||
offer an interview to each individual entitled to a veteran's | ||
employment preference who applies and is qualified for the | ||
position. | ||
SECTION 2. Section 657.008(a), Government Code, is amended | ||
to read as follows: | ||
(a) A public entity shall file quarterly with the | ||
comptroller a report that states: | ||
(1) the percentage of the total number of employees | ||
hired by the entity during the reporting period who are persons | ||
entitled to a preference under this chapter; | ||
(2) the percentage of the total number of persons | ||
applying for employment with the entity during the reporting period | ||
who are persons entitled to a preference under this chapter; | ||
(3) the percentage of the total number of the entity's | ||
employees who are persons entitled to a preference under this | ||
chapter; and | ||

governing body of the entity under Section 657.010 during that | ||
quarter and the number of those complaints resolved by the | ||
governing body. | ||
SECTION 3. Section 657.0051, Government Code, as added by | ||
this Act, applies only to an open position with a public entity or | ||
public work of this state for which the public entity or public work | ||
begins accepting applications on or after the effective date of | ||
this Act. An open position with a public entity or public work for | ||
which the public entity or public work begins accepting | ||
applications before the effective date of this Act is governed by | ||
the law in effect on the date the public entity or public work began | ||
accepting applications, and the former law is continued in effect | ||
for that purpose. | ||
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
