relating to the Texas Education Agency developing a strategic plan | ||
to increase enrollment in state prekindergarten programs. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. (a) The Texas Education Agency shall develop a | ||
strategic plan to encourage student enrollment in state | ||
prekindergarten programs. The plan must: | ||
(1) provide that a state prekindergarten program is | ||
preferred to student enrollment in a federal Head Start program; | ||
and | ||
(2) include strategies for outreach to the parents of | ||
eligible children to enroll in state prekindergarten programs. | ||
(b) Not later than December 1, 2016, the Texas Education | ||
Agency shall deliver to the governor the strategic plan developed | ||
under Subsection (a) of this section. | ||
(c) This section expires January 1, 2017. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
