| relating to prohibiting school districts from requiring or coercing | ||
| school district employees to make charitable contributions. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 22, Education Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 22.011 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 22.011. REQUIRING OR COERCING EMPLOYEES TO MAKE | ||
| CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS. (a) A school district board of trustees | ||
| or school district employee may not directly or indirectly require | ||
| or coerce any school district employee to: | ||
| (1) make a contribution to a charitable organization | ||
| or in response to a fund-raiser; or | ||
| (2) attend a meeting called for the purpose of | ||
| soliciting charitable contributions. | ||
| (b) A school district board of trustees or school district | ||
| employee may not directly or indirectly require or coerce any | ||
| school district employee to refrain from: | ||
| (1) making a contribution to a charitable organization | ||
| or in response to a fund-raiser; or | ||
| (2) attending a meeting called for the purpose of | ||
| soliciting charitable contributions. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2011. | ||
