A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to requiring a copy of a named insured's driver's license
for issuance of an automobile insurance policy.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 1952, Insurance Code, is
amended by adding Section 1952.002 to read as follows:
Sec. 1952.002. DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIRED. An insurer may
not deliver, issue for delivery, or renew a personal automobile
insurance policy unless the policyholder provides the insurer with
a copy of each named insured's driver's license.
SECTION 2. This Act applies only to an insurance policy that
is delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed on or after January 1,
2014. An insurance policy delivered, issued for delivery, or
renewed before January 1, 2014, is governed by the law as it existed
immediately before the effective date of this Act, and that law is
continued in effect for that purpose.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
