| schools; making an appropriation. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 25.081, Education Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Subsection (i) to read as follows: | ||
| (i) A school district may not begin classroom instruction | ||
| before 8 a.m. | ||
| SECTION 2. In addition to other appropriations made by the | ||
| 86th Legislature, Regular Session, 2019, the amount of $755,076,520 | ||
| is appropriated from the general revenue fund to the Texas | ||
| Education Agency to distribute to school districts for the purpose | ||
| of offsetting the additional transportation costs that will result | ||
| from the prohibition imposed by Section 25.081(i), Education Code, | ||
| as added by this Act, for the period beginning on the effective date | ||
| of this Act and ending on the second anniversary of that date. | ||
| SECTION 3. Section 25.081(i), Education Code, as added by | ||
| this Act, applies beginning with the 2019-2020 school year. | ||
| SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2019. | ||
