| relating to a peace officer training advisory committee. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 1701.2511 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 1701.2511. OFFICER TRAINING ADVISORY COMMITTEE. (a) | ||
| The officer training advisory committee is created. The committee | ||
| is composed of: | ||
| (1) one member of the legislature, appointed by the | ||
| governor and designated by the governor as the chair of the | ||
| committee; | ||
| (2) three members of the senate, appointed by the | ||
| lieutenant governor; and | ||
| (3) three members of the house of representatives, | ||
| appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives. | ||
| (b) The committee shall conduct a study of the training | ||
| programs the commission establishes and maintains under this | ||
| chapter for officers who are required to hold a license as provided | ||
| by Section 1701.301. The study must take into account the school | ||
| curriculum, examination requirement, and training programs | ||
| required for a person who seeks to become licensed as an officer. | ||
| (c) The committee shall meet at the call of the chair. | ||
| (d) Not later than December 1, 2018, the committee shall | ||
| report the committee's findings and recommendations to the members | ||
| of the legislature. The committee's recommendations must include | ||
| ways to improve the training programs provided by the commission to | ||
| persons who seek a license as an officer under this chapter. | ||
| (e) This section expires December 1, 2019. | ||
| SECTION 2. Not later than November 1, 2017, the relevant | ||
| appointing officers shall appoint the members of the peace officer | ||
| training advisory committee under Section 1701.2511, Occupations | ||
| Code, as added by this Act. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. | ||
