| operations in certain counties. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Chapter 34, Education Code, is amended by adding | ||
| Section 34.0075 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 34.0075. CONSIDERATION OF COUNTYWIDE OPERATION OF | ||
| SCHOOL BUSES. (a) This section applies only to a county with a | ||
| population of 750,000 or more that is located adjacent to an | ||
| international border. | ||
| (b) Not later than January 1, 2012, the school districts in | ||
| a county subject to this section shall meet and discuss countywide | ||
| consolidation of school bus operations. The districts shall | ||
| collect and review information related to the operation of school | ||
| buses by each district and discuss the feasibility and advisability | ||
| of consolidating those operations. | ||
| (c) Not later than May 1, 2012, the school districts shall | ||
| provide a joint report to the commissioner: | ||
| (1) summarizing the information collected and | ||
| reviewed under Subsection (b); and | ||
| (2) providing recommendations concerning the | ||
| feasibility and advisability of countywide consolidation of school | ||
| bus operations based on the discussions under Subsection (b). | ||
| (d) This section expires September 1, 2012. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2011. | ||
