| relating to an educational program on sex trafficking awareness and | ||
| prevention for certain public school students. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 28.0171 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 28.0171. EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM ON SEX TRAFFICKING | ||
| AWARENESS AND PREVENTION. (a) Each school district shall provide | ||
| an educational program to students in grade six relating to the | ||
| awareness and prevention of sex trafficking. The program must | ||
| include: | ||
| (1) information on the different forms of sex | ||
| trafficking and the risk factors for sex trafficking; and | ||
| (2) the procedures for reporting sex trafficking or | ||
| suspected sex trafficking. | ||
| (b) Before the beginning of each school year, a school | ||
| district shall provide written notice to the parent of each student | ||
| enrolled in grade six in the district that includes the following: | ||
| (1) a statement that the district will provide an | ||
| educational program relating to sex trafficking awareness and | ||
| prevention of sex trafficking to students enrolled in grade six in | ||
| the district; | ||
| (2) a description of the material that will be used | ||
| during the program; and | ||
| (3) a statement that the parent has the right to review | ||
| the material and remove the parent's student from the program. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2022-2023 | ||
| school year. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the | ||
| legislative session. | ||
