No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Civil Practice and Remedies Code, the Government Code, the Local Government Code, and the Penal Code relating to the carrying of a handgun by certain first responders. The bill would require certain first responders who wish to carry a handgun while on duty to complete a training course administered by a qualified handgun instructor.
This analysis assumes that the costs associated with the bill could be absorbed using existing resources and that implementing the provisions of the bill addressing felony sanctions for criminal offenses would not result in a significant impact on state correctional agencies.
