A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR SHEILA MARIE JONES UPON THE OCCASION OF HER BECOMING THE FIRST WOMAN AND FIRST PERSON OF COLOR TO HOLD THE POSITION OF BUILDING OFFICIAL FOR THE CITY OF DARLINGTON.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Sheila Marie Jones; and

Whereas, Mrs. Jones was raised on the West Coast in a prominent family. She is a strong, independent woman who comes from a long line of women business owners; and

Whereas, a veteran of the United States Army, Mrs. Jones served as the South Carolina State ambassador for Operation Enduring Warrior, a veteran-funded nonprofit that honors, empowers, and motivates wounded military and law enforcement veterans through rehabilitation; and

Whereas, Mrs. Jones has a background working in property management. In June, 2022, the International Code Council recognized her as a Certified Building Official; and

Whereas, a leader in her profession, Mrs. Jones has become the first woman and first person of color to hold the position of Building Official for the City of Darlington; and

Whereas, Mrs. Jones has one son who is a business owner in the Atlanta area. Her first grandchild is on the way; and

Whereas, in her free time, Mrs. Jones competes in Iron Man competitions and triathlons; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment that Mrs. Jones has shown in serving the people and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Sheila Marie Jones upon the occasion of her becoming the first woman and first person of color to hold the position of Building Official for the City of Darlington.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Sheila Marie Jones.
