A BILL

TO AMEND ARTICLE 1, CHAPTER 9, TITLE 4 OF THE 1976 CODE, RELATING TO GENERAL PROVISIONS CONCERNING COUNTY GOVERNMENT, BY ADDING SECTION 4-9-200 TO PROVIDE THAT THE GOVERNING BODY OF A COUNTY MAY IMPOSE TERM LIMITS ON THE MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNING BODY, AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE PROCEDURE FOR IMPOSING THE TERM LIMITS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Article 1, Chapter 9, Title 4 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 4-9-200.    The number of terms that a member of the governing body of a county may serve may be limited by an ordinance initiated:

(1)    by the governing body; or

(2)    by the qualified electors of the county pursuant to the procedure contained in Article 13 of this chapter."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
