A senate RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE the Junior League of Columbia UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS one hundredth ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND its members for their MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE columbia COMMUNITY AND THE PEOPLE AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize the Junior League of Columbia as it celebrates this important milestone; and
Whereas, the Junior League of Columbia is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women's leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training; and
Whereas, in 1924, Katharine Heath Manning Perry and a group of ten women organized the Junior League of Columbia and invited nineteen other women to become members. The organization was admitted to the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) in 1925; and
Whereas, throughout the years, Junior League of Columbia volunteers have been involved with numerous community organizations and worthy programs. They provide volunteer hours, financial support, and leadership for many organizations in the Midlands; and
Whereas, in keeping with the organization's mission, the Junior League of Columbia promotes voluntarism and improves communities by providing a variety of avenues for members to become involved and make positive impacts throughout the Midlands community and schools. The Junior League of Columbia membership gives countless hours back to the community through voluntarism while providing members nearly five hundred hours of leadership training yearly; and
Whereas, through hands-on training and formal learning opportunities, the Junior League of Columbia trains community volunteers to work with local non-profits as part of Done In A Day and Healthy Kids programs, as well as through signature community fundraising events including the annual Holiday Market and the Little Black Dress Initiative to raise awareness of poverty impacting women and children; and
Whereas, as the Junior League of Columbia celebrates our centennial year of service, the organization is excited to announce a shift in focus area. Beginning with the 2024-2025 league year, the Junior League of Columbia will be concentrating on promoting healthy relationships for women and children; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment of the Junior League of Columbia to serving the people and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the Junior League of Columbia upon the occasion of its one hundredth anniversary and commend its members for their many years of dedicated service to the Columbia community and the people and the State of South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the board of the Junior League of Columbia.
