A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE THE WANDO HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND, DIRECTORS, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO HONOR THEM FOR WINNING THE BAND'S THIRTEENTH SOUTH CAROLINA 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is proud to recognize the Wando High School Marching Band for winning the South Carolina 5A State Marching Band Competition in November of 2021 at Irmo High School; and
Whereas, at the competition, Wando achieved an overall finals score of 96.5 and received three caption awards for Best Music, Best Visuals, and Best General Effect; and
Whereas, this historic win marks Wando High School Marching Band's thirteenth South Carolina 5A State Championship. The win breaks the previous state record that Wando High School set in 2019 for the most championships held by any South Carolina 5A high school marching band; and
Whereas, the members of Wando High School Marching Band worked hard for this competition. Band members took precautions to protect each other from illness, practiced extra hours to study challenging choreography, and exercised regularly to build up their endurance; and
Whereas, the Wando High School Marching Band currently flourishes under the direction of Bobby Lambert, Lanie Radecke, and Jeff Handel. Michael Gray serves as the Program Coordinator, Tim Cole serves as the Visual Caption head, and Brian Winn serves as the Color Guard Director; and
Whereas, this championship win represents the hard work and imagination of students, families, and staff over many years; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the pride and recognition that the Wando High School Marching Band has brought to its school and community and look forward to a future filled with further accomplishments by the band and its talented students. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the Wando High School Marching Band, directors, and school officials on an outstanding season and honor them for winning the band's thirteenth South Carolina 5A State Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Wando High School Marching Band, directors, and school officials.
