A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 1-7-30 OF THE 1976 CODE, RELATING TO THE APPOINTMENT OF ASSISTANT ATTORNEYS GENERAL, TO PROVIDE FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF INVESTIGATORS AND TO PROVIDE THAT ANY INVESTIGATOR EMPLOYED BY THE ATTORNEY GENERAL WITH A CLASS 1 LAW ENFORCEMENT CERTIFICATION SHALL HAVE FULL STATEWIDE POLICE POWER IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND IS REQUIRED TO POST BOND AND TAKE AN OATH TO FAITHFULLY PERFORM AND EXECUTE HIS DUTIES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 1-7-30 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 1-7-30.        The Attorney General shall appoint the Assistant Attorneys General and investigators as he deems necessary. Notwithstanding any other statutory provisions, any investigator employed and commissioned by the Attorney General's office with a class 1 law enforcement certification shall have full statewide police power to exercise his duties within the State of South Carolina and is required to post bond and take an oath to faithfully perform and execute his duties."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
