A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION ERECT A SIGN ALONG WILLARD ROAD AT ITS INTERSECTION WITH UNITED STATES HIGHWAYS 72-221 IN GREENWOOD COUNTY THAT CONTAINS THE WORDS "JAMES W. BRITT MEMORIAL ROADWAY".

Whereas, the late James (Jimmy) Britt served as chairman of the Greenwood County Transportation Committee from approximately 1995 until his death in 2011; and

Whereas, during his tenure on the committee, Mr. Britt spearheaded an effort that ultimately led to the rebuilding of Willard Road in Greenwood County at one-half the cost of the original estimate; and

Whereas, to recognize Mr. Britt's hard work and long service in the interest of cost effectively maintaining and improving the road system in Greenwood County as a member of the county transportation committee, it would be fitting and proper to name a roadway in his honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly request that the Department of Transportation erect a sign along Willard Road at its intersection with United States Highways 72-221 in Greenwood County that contains the words "James W. Britt Memorial Roadway".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
