A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR KELLY GOLDEN OF CHARLESTON COUNTY ON A DISTINGUISHED CAREER IN BROADCAST JOURNALISM AND TO WISH HER MUCH CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, it is altogether fitting and proper that members of the South Carolina House of Representatives should pause in their deliberations to express their gratitude to Kelly Golden of Charleston County for her significant contributions to journalism in the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, for over two decades Kelly has worked tirelessly to keep the public informed by covering news and events in a fresh and engaging manner; and

Whereas, she began her broadcasting career at AM 1250 in Charleston, where she won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award at the age of twenty-three; and

Whereas, Kelly later joined heritage news talker WDBO in Orlando, Florida, where her work brought her a second Edward R. Murrow Award and a Marconi Radio Award; and

Whereas, fortunately for South Carolina, she returned home to work at one of the very first FM news talkers, 94.3 WSC and iHeartRadio Charleston, as an on-air anchor and news and public affairs director. It was there that Kelly transitioned from the newsroom to the talk studio, allowing her to share her personality and opinions in addition to information and facts; and

Whereas, the life of a journalist has given Kelly many adventures, including flying on Charleston-based C-17s countless times, visiting Haiti after it was struck by a devastating earthquake, chasing hurricanes, and flying with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration through hurricanes; and

Whereas, an enthusiastic philanthropist, Kelly is heavily involved in the community, having donated over twenty years of service in support of Lowcountry nonprofits such as CrimeStoppers, Project Unity USA, the Lowcountry Food Bank, Trident United Way, the Girl Scouts, the Medical University of South Carolina Children's Hospital, and Fisher House Charleston, among others; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of South Carolina are grateful for the legacy of professional excellence and philanthropic generosity that Kelly has created, and look forward to hearing of her many future successes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate and honor Kelly Golden of Charleston County on a distinguished career in broadcast journalism and wish her much continued success and happiness.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Kelly Golden.
