A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 6-10-30, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE ADOPTION AND COMPLIANCE WITH THE ENERGY STANDARD OF THIS STATE, SO AS TO ALLOW A HOMEBUILDER TO USE AN ALTERNATE COMPLIANCE PATH IN THE 2015 INTERNATIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION CODE AND TO ESTABLISH THE ENERGY RATING INDEX FOR THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AT SIXTY-FIVE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 6-10-30 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 143 of 2012, is further amended to read:

"Section 6-10-30.    (A)    The 2009 edition of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) is adopted as the Energy Standard. All new and renovated buildings and additions constructed within the State must comply with this standard. As an additional compliance option for meeting the Energy Standard, the State of South Carolina shall allow a homebuilder to use the alternate compliance path in the 2015 IECC per this section.

(B)    Notwithstanding Table R406.4 of the 2015 edition of the IECC, the energy rating index for the State of South Carolina is sixty-five."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
