A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE COVENANT CLASSICAL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL BOYS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2017 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Covenant Classical Christian School boys cross country team of Richland County took top honors at the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) state meet held at Heathwood Hall in Columbia on October 28, 2017; and

Whereas, to the delight of their ever faithful fans, the Covenant Classical Christian Eagles defeated a fine, competitive field of SCISA comers to take home the state trophy for the third time in twenty years; and

Whereas, as the Eagles were striving to fulfill the school's motto to transform their culture for Christ, they launched the season with many new team members and beginning runners by developing a special comradery in order to encourage each other to train and work hard; and

Whereas, the first cross country race in September garnered a win for the team, and the Eagles soared confidently through the season to the state meet; and

Whereas, Re'Quis Johnson ran first all season for the team and finished in sixth place at the state competition. Kobe Franklin came in seventh at state, and Ethan Agudzi-Addo finished in eleventh place for Covenant Classical Christian; and

Whereas, both Re'Quis Johnson and Kobe Franklin were honored by being named All-Region and All-State runners for SCISA 1A; and

Whereas, other runners on the cross country team who contributed to the Eagles' state title were Samuel Bahng, William Drake, Nathan Agudzi-Addo, and Timmy Drake; and

Whereas, honored as SCISA 1A Coach of the Year in cross country, Head Coach Gary Collier, along with his skilled coaching assistants, capitalized on his own athletic ability and training in a sport that exacts endurance, strength, and speed to hone a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the track; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina appreciate the pride and recognition that the Covenant Classical Christian cross country runners have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Covenant Classical Christian School boys cross country team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2017 South Carolina Independent School Association Class 1A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head of School Kevin M. Bolen and Coach Gary Collier.
