A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE PAULA KIRKLAND, DORMAN HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL COACH, ON BEING NAMED A 2017-2018 NATIONAL TRI-COACH OF THE YEAR BY PREPVOLLEYBALL.COM.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is delighted to learn that Paula Kirkland, Dorman High School volleyball coach, has been named a 2017-2018 National Tri-Coach of the Year by prepvolleyball.com; and

Whereas, Wando's Coach Alexis Glover, whose team lost to Dorman at the state championship, nominated Coach Kirkland for the honor with this tribute: "Paula is a mentoring coach and teacher. She is constantly trying to better herself, her staff, and her team throughout the season. She is a lifelong learner. She attends clinics and encourages her staff to do so, as well. She mentors young coaches and is involved in every aspect of her volleyball empire by taking her team down to the middle schools and supporting and watching the B team/eighth-grade matches. She is an advocate for all volleyball in her county, district, and the State of South Carolina"; and

Whereas, Paula Kirkland has compiled an enviable 910-134 record, with thirteen state championships in thirty-seven years, most recently her team's second straight Class AAAAA state title; and

Whereas, further, Dorman's volleyball team has been honored in the off-season with a slew of national player of the year awards for standout Thayer Hall, an All-American nod for freshman setter Grace Metcalf, and the opportunity to train with USA Volleyball for libero Anna Renwick. Coach Kirkland's honor helps further cement Dorman's already lofty national reputation; and

Whereas, quick to share the credit for her success with others, Coach Kirkland gives praise to her players, assistant coaches, Dorman faculty members at large, school and district administration, students, and parents for their strong support. In addition, she is grateful to be coaching in an area that is a hotbed of volleyball talent; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, appreciative of Paula Kirkland's gifts as both volleyball coach and exemplar to her team, take great pleasure in recognizing her on this, her latest accolade, a 2017-2018 National Tri-Coach of the Year award. Now, therefore,
