A concurrent RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION CALLING UPON THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS AND PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES TO WITHDRAW FROM THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION.

Whereas, on July 6, 2020, President Donald Trump sent a letter to the U.N. Secretariat notifying him of the United States government's intention to withdraw its membership from the World Health Organization (WHO). The letter was to take effect on July 6, 2021, as per protocol requiring a one-year notification; and

Whereas, on his first day of office, President Joseph Biden overturned the former president's decision to withdraw from the WHO and vowed to continue to work with them; and

Whereas, in April of 2022, the Biden administration went even further by proposing amendments to the International Health Regulations (IHR), seeking to expand the WHO's global influence; and

Whereas, the WHO is not working in the interests of the American people. The WHO mismanaged its response to the Coronavirus disease pandemic and has continued to maintain an alarming dependence on China; and

Whereas, the United States is a sovereign nation founded on the principles of freedom. We reject any assertion of authority over our nation or its citizens from foreign individuals or entitles, such as the WHO; and

Whereas, the WHO is a detriment to the sovereignty of the United States and other countries and because of this we urge support of our withdrawal from the corrupt World Health Organization; and

Whereas, the United States has alternative means to engage in global health diplomacy outside of its membership to the WHO. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, call upon the United States Congress and President of the United States to withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the United States Speaker of the House, the United States Vice President in her capacity as the President of the United States Senate, the President of the United States.
