A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE LATTA HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS ON WINNING THE 2015 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, on May 22, 2015, the Latta High School baseball team grabbed top honors at the state title series, ending a 6-4 contest that saw the Vikings hold off a comeback by the Lewisville Lions; and

Whereas, Latta picked up one run in the top of the first and held the lead until the bottom of the fourth, when the Lions scored their first run. Lewisville pulled ahead 4-1 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the Vikings responded with five runs in the fifth to capture the win; and

Whereas, John Kever Love earned the win on the mound, pitching a complete game with seven hits, four runs, one earned run, three walks, one wild pitch, and one hit by pitch, striking out eleven; and

Whereas, at bat, Eric McGirt scored one run on a walk; Cledus Williams went 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and one run; and Jackson Williams went 2-for-3 with a home run, one RBI, and two runs scored. Also, John Kever Love went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI; Caleb Mishue drew a walk; Austin Miller went 1-for-3 with a double, one RBI, and one run; Jonathan Ray went 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI; and Noah Moody scored one run; and

Whereas, using his own considerable athletic training and skills, Coach Donald Cribb built his players into championship caliber and encouraged them not to settle for second best; and

Whereas, proud of these fine student athletes, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the recognition the Latta High School baseball players have brought to their school and community, and the members look to hear of many more victories for the school in coming seasons. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Latta High School baseball team for an outstanding season and congratulate the players on winning the 2015 Class A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Leigh Sloan and Coach Donald Cribb of Latta High School.
