A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE HAMMOND SCHOOL GIRLS VARSITY TENNIS TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2015 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Hammond tennis team of Richland County took top honors at the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) state competition held at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter on October 24, 2015; and

Whereas, to the delight of their fans, Hammond's Lady Skyhawks bested Ashley Hall 5-4 to capture the state trophy and remain undefeated in SCISA play for the season; and

Whereas, Brittney Desmond took the first singles' match for the Skyhawks, followed by singles' wins from teammates Maggie Herring and Anne Jenkins. In doubles' play, Desmond and Herring posted a win for the Skyhawks, and Caroline MacGillivray and Jenkins teamed up for Hammond's final win to clinch the title; and

Whereas, Hammond stand-outs Brittney Desmond, Maggie Herring, Anne Jenkins, and Caroline MacGillivray were named SCISA All-Region players, while Hammond Head Coach Marjan Lucas was named the SCISA Region Coach of the Year; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands speed, strength, and agility, Coach Lucas and her skilled coaching staff maximized their own athletic ability and training to mold a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the court; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the pride and recognition that the Hammond tennis players have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued achievements in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Hammond School girls varsity tennis team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2015 South Carolina Independent School Association Class AAA State Championship title.
