A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE PALMETTO HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADING SQUAD, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR A REMARKABLE SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2017 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly is pleased to learn that the members of the Palmetto High competitive cheerleading squad of Anderson County took top honors at the state competition held at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia on November 18, 2017; and

Whereas, to the delight of their exuberant fans, the Palmetto High Lady Mustangs defeated a competitive field of cheer squads to capture the team's second consecutive state title, besting the nearest competitor, Brooklyn-Cayce High School, for the second time in as many years by 46 points; and

Whereas, Head Coach Carol Brooks has led the competitive cheer squad for five years, taking the Lady Mustangs to the state competition every year. Next year the successful, bourgeoning Palmetto program will compete in the even more competitive Class AAAA; and

Whereas, when community and parental involvement grew even stronger after losing eight seniors from the state championship squad at graduation last year, Coach Brooks accepted the challenge to "reload" the Lady Mustangs with fourteen newcomers to the 28-member squad and adopted the year's motto, "Road Two State"; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands precision, grace, and strength, Coach Brooks and her skilled assistant Coach Spencer Davis who handles choreography maximized their own experience and passion to produce a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the mat; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly value the pride and recognition that the Palmetto High cheerleaders have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Palmetto High School competitive cheerleading squad, coaches, and school officials for a remarkable season and congratulate them for winning the 2017 South Carolina Class AAA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Robert A. Roach and Coach Carol Brooks.
