A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR VICKI BOURUS, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA COALITION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN THE YEARS AHEAD.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Vicki Bourus will begin a much deserved retirement on July 1, 2011, after twelve years as Executive Director of the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (SCCADVASA); and
Whereas, with a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia and a master's degree in social work from the University of South Carolina, she has worked extensively with victims of domestic and sexual assault and child abuse as a licensed social worker; and
Whereas, since 1986, Ms. Bourus has been providing services and advocating for victims of domestic and sexual assault and has provided law enforcement officers, medical and legal professionals, and social workers with consultation and training in the identification, assessment, and treatment of victims of both sexual and domestic violence and other related issues; and
Whereas, she has spearheaded numerous legislative efforts and has worked relentlessly with state and agency leaders to direct the development of effective policies on domestic violence and sexual assault; and
Whereas, among the various campaigns she has successfully promoted are the highly visible and successful efforts, "Living with the Enemy" and "Remember My Name"; and
Whereas, Ms. Bourus served on the Domestic Violence Task Force of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy from 1987 to 1988 and served as the Chair of the Governor's Domestic Violence Fatality Review Task Force in 2004; and
Whereas, a recipient of a "Woman of Achievement" award from the South Carolina Commission on Women in 2007, she serves on the board of the National Network to End Domestic Violence and on the board of directors of the South Carolina Victims Assistance Network; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the years of dedication that Vicki Bourus has devoted to protect the victims of domestic violence in our State and wish her years of enjoyment in her well earned retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Vicki Bourus, Executive Director of the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, upon the occasion of her retirement, and wish her continued success and happiness in the years ahead.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Vicki Bourus.
