A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND DR. MARC C. DAVID, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF ENGLISH AND CHAIRMAN OF THE DIVISION OF RELIGION AND HUMANITIES AT MORRIS COLLEGE, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM UPON RECEIVING THE SOUTH CAROLINA COUNCIL OF INDEPENDENT COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARD.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to learn that Dr. Marc C. David was the 2011 recipient of the South Carolina Council of Independent Colleges and Universities Excellence in Teaching Award and was honored on April 5, 2011; and

Whereas, born in Wuertzburg, Germany, while his father served there as a military chaplain, Marc David earned a bachelor's degree in English education from Morehouse College in 1987; and

Whereas, at North Carolina Central University, he earned a master's degree in English in 1991, served as a graduate and graduate-resident assistant, and was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges in 1990; and

Whereas, in the summers from 1990 to 1995, he taught pre-college students in the Upward Bound Program at the University of South Carolina and at the University of Akron; and

Whereas, in 1999, he earned a doctorate in English Education from Syracuse University, where he served as a graduate assistant from 1994 to 1996; and

Whereas, from 1991 to 1993 and again from 1996 to 2001, Dr. David served as an assistant professor of English at South Carolina State University and was named to Who's Who Among American Teachers in 2000; and

Whereas, he was the Director of Undergraduate Studies at Colgate University from 2001 to 2002 and the Assistant Dean of Students for Multicultural Student Affairs at Hamilton College from 2002-2004; and

Whereas, he later served as the Dean of Students at Dillard University, and then he joined the faculty at Morris College in 2006 where he has exhibited his dedication to teaching as a calling requiring passion, commitment, and drive to benefit students; and

Whereas, he has coordinated numerous small grants and serves as the Morris College faculty liaison to the Board of Trustees; and

Whereas, not only is he in demand as a classroom professor, but he also has published numerous articles in literary magazines and has made presentations at several national conventions; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are grateful for the significant contributions that Dr. Marc C. David has made to the field of education in the Palmetto State and for the pride and recognition that he has brought to his academic institution and to his community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend Dr. Marc C. David, Assistant Professor of English and Chairman of the Division of Religion and Humanities at Morris College, and congratulate him upon receiving the South Carolina Council of Independent Colleges and Universities Excellence in Teaching Award.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Dr. Marc C. David.
