A concurrent RESOLUTION

to congratulate and honor shorty's grill for decades of service as a culinary institution in Loris, South Carolina.

Whereas, for more than forty years the Conner family has owned and managed Shorty's Grill located in the heart of downtown Loris; and

Whereas, David "Shorty" Conner, his wife, Betty, their son, Nick, his wife, Jennifer, and their son, Gage, work together to make Shorty's Grill a perfect gathering spot for locals. Frequent visits to 4115 Meeting Street are embedded into their lives and some have gathered at the restaurant since its opening; and

Whereas, for several years, Shorty had been working at the restaurant, originally named Loris Lunch and Pool Room. When he and Betty decided to buy it in 1979, they thought it would be appropriate to change the name to Shorty's Grill; and

Whereas, Shorty's Grill is open from 5:00 am to 3:00 pm every day except Sunday, locals and visitors alike stop by for all-day breakfast, lunch and dinner. For breakfast, plates loaded with signature items include grits, eggs, ham, and bacon. The extensive lunch and dinner menu includes everything from hamburgers, hot dogs, and their signature hand-cut French fries, along with the special of the day. Also popular for their chicken bog, the Conner's believe in keeping it simple and true to the original recipe they have been making for years; and

Whereas, every nook, cranny, and corner of Shorty's is packed during lunch as diners fill the air with mindless chatter while gobbling down delicious food. The grill is part of a regular routine for those desiring down-home company and affordable food served quickly and enjoyed among friends. Some people claim they eat at the grill as often as six days a week, because of the great food, Southern hospitality and personal customer service; and

Whereas, another thing that sets Shorty's apart from other restaurants is the game room where pool tables and video games occupy other diners. The family decided to keep the game room rather than remove it for additional seating for nostalgic reasons; and

Whereas, appreciative of its significant contributions to the Town of Loris, the members of the General Assembly take great pleasure in honoring Shorty's Grill for its more than forty years of valued service to the community.  Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Shorty's Grill for decades of service as a culinary institution in Loris, South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Conner family.
