A house RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF ALVIN BURTON "BUCK" ROBERTS OF ANDERSON AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Alvin Burton "Buck" Roberts of Anderson at the venerable age of 85 on February 7, 2025; and
Whereas, born in Anderson on July 27, 1939, Buck was the son of the late Alfred Burton Roberts and Alma Tench Roberts; and
Whereas, while growing up in Anderson and spending his life there, he developed many lasting friendships, married, raised his family, attended church, was involved in city government, and continued growing his family's construction business; and
Whereas, he took over A.B. Roberts Construction as a general contractor from his father in the early 1980s, maintaining the high standards he learned from his father while remaining lifelong friends with many of his clients. His sons and grandson continue the legacy as the fourth generation in the business; and
Whereas, during his career, Buck was a founding officer of the Anderson Home Builders Association, served as president of the South Carolina Home Builders Association, and was Area 4 vice president of the National Home Builders Association. He was inducted into the South Carolina Housing Hall of Fame in 1996; and
Whereas, Buck served on Anderson City Council from 2000 to 2018. He further served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 2.5 Lake Hartwell and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. When he wasn't busy with construction or civic engagements, he enjoyed his free time boating and restoring his antique cars and trucks. Above all, he was a devoted family man, and his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren; and
Whereas, preceded in death by his sisters, Hazel Moore and Anna Ruth Harris, Buck Roberts leaves to cherish his memory his wife of sixty-five years, Carole Kay Roberts; his daughter, Beth Roberts Hearn (Gary); his sons, Jeff Roberts (Danielle) and Tim Roberts (Julie); eight grandchildren, Al Roberts Sr. (Caroline), Lizzi Heilig (Brady), Catherine Langdon (Patrick), Warner Roberts (Hallie), Sarah Parker Garrison (Grant), Caroline Castles (Ray), Fletcher Roberts (Olivia), and Adam Roberts; and four great-grandchildren, Brewer and Molly Roberts, Ellis Castles, and Hal Langdon; and a host of other family members and friends; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House are grateful for the life and legacy of Buck Roberts and for the example of service and excellence he set for all who knew him. He will be missed. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Alvin Burton "Buck" Roberts of Anderson and extend the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family.
