A house RESOLUTION

 

TO COMMEND THE HONORABLE JEFFREY CHARLES "JEFF" CHANDLER FOR HIS TWENTY-NINE YEARS OF DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF HANAHAN CITY COUNCIL AND TO RECOGNIZE HIM AS THE LONGEST-SERVING MEMBER IN THE HISTORY OF CITY COUNCIL.

 

Whereas, for nearly thirty years, the City of Hanahan has enjoyed the benefit of the commitment, experience, and leadership of the Honorable Jeffrey Charles "Jeff" Chandler in his service as a member of Hanahan City Council; and

 

Whereas, a graduate of Southern Illinois University, Councilmember Chandler was first elected to Hanahan City Council in 1995 and has served as mayor pro tem on two occasions. Over the course of his three decades of service, he has won the respect and admiration of both his colleagues and the citizens he represents; and

 

Whereas, highlights of his service include the planning and funding of numerous city buildings, such as Hanahan City Hall, various fire stations, the Hanahan Senior Center, and the Hanahan Recreation Center. Other highlights include the planning and funding of numerous athletic fields and neighborhood parks throughout the city of Hanahan, his coaching of Hanahan youth in various sports, and the adding and planning of city trail systems at city parks. He also was highly involved in proposing, planning, and funding the Hanahan Amphitheater and worked with diligence for a more efficient transportation system, resulting in the Railroad Avenue Extension Project, Highland Park intersection improvements, and traffic lights at Tanner Ford Boulevard and North Rhett Avenue. He worked and negotiated assiduously to help build Bowen's Corner School, gave many hours of public service that meant absence from his family, and contributed hours of beautification work that required planting shrubs and placing city entrance signs. All this, in addition to his service as Hanahan's mayor pro tem; and

 

Whereas, Jeff Chandler finds strength for his labors in the strong support of his family: his lovely wife, Lori; and their five delightful children, all of whom were raised in Hanahan; and

 

Whereas, on Friday, December 6, 2024, Mr. Chandler's colleagues, family, and friends will gather at Hanahan's official Christmas tree lighting ceremony, at which time Councilmember Chandler will light the tree and be recognized for his many years of service to his beloved city; and

 

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives recognize that the success of the State of South Carolina, the strength of its communities, and the vitality of American society as a whole depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of individuals like Jeff Chandler who use their talents and resources to serve others. Through his selfless service, Jeff has created a legacy of consistent excellence and commitment for the people of South Carolina, most particularly those of Hanahan, and it is a great pleasure to salute him for his distinguished service and to wish him all the best in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend the Honorable Jeffrey Charles "Jeff" Chandler for his twenty-nine years of dedicated public service as a member of Hanahan City Council and recognize him as the longest-serving member in the history of city council.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Jeffrey Charles "Jeff" Chandler.
