A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO REMEMBER AND CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF JOY HOLMAN, OF LEXINGTON COUNTY, COACH OF COLUMBIA'S DOUBLE DUTCH FORCES FOR MORE THAN THIRTY YEARS, AND TO HONOR HER, UPON HER PASSING, FOR HER REMARKABLE COMMITMENT TO YOUNG PEOPLE OF THE MIDLANDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Joy Holman, the highly-regarded and award-winning Double Dutch coach, on Tuesday, July 17, 2018; and

Whereas, the daughter of the late Corzine Holman, she was raised by her late maternal grandparents Sylvester Ben and Carrie Lee Jones of Lexington; and

Whereas, for decades Ms. Holman was a coach to championship youth teams, using just the right combination of sternness and love, and her Double Dutch teams won dozens of world titles; and

Whereas, she was one of the founders of Columbia's national and world champion Double Dutch teams known as Double Dutch Forces, but often, because her team was a force to be reckoned with, they were called simply "The Forces"; and

Whereas, beginning in 1985, teams from different age groups soared under her leadership, winning 324 state titles, 139 world titles, twenty-eight nationals, and five grand national titles, including five national speed records; and

Whereas, in 2016, the team won several titles at the American Double Dutch League World Invitational Championship; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Joy Holman and for the standard of excellence and hard work she set for all who knew her. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, remember and celebrate the life of Joy Holman, of Lexington County, coach of Columbia's Double Dutch Forces for more than thirty years, and honor her, upon her passing, for her remarkable commitment to young people of the Midlands.
